Since July 2008, The Times newspaper has been giving away free Penguin books from time to time at selected outlets in London, UK. Fifteen of the books are from the Penguin Celebrations series of 2007 and all use the Celebrations retro cover which is itself based on Edward Youngs original cover design for Penguin Books in 1935. However, the barcode on the back of the Celebrations covers has been replaced by The Times masthead and the words NOT FOR RESALE, with the masthead also added above the Penguin logo at the base of the spine. In addition to the 15 Celebrations, the 70 books given away to date include ten new mini-series, as follows:
15 x Penguin Celebrations: Monday 21st July - Friday 8th August 2008
10 x Penguin 'Film Classics' (black covers): Monday 2nd - Friday 13th February 2009
5 x Penguin Adventure (lime green covers): Monday 20th - Friday 24 July 2009
5 x Penguin Romance (red covers): Monday 27th - Friday 31st July 2009
5 x Penguin Crime (violet covers): Monday 3rd
- Friday 7th August 2009
5 x Penguin Humour (yellow covers): Monday 10th - Friday 14th August 2009
5 x Penguin Films (sky blue covers): Monday 12th - Friday 16th October 2009
5 x Penguin London (pink covers): Monday 19th - Friday 23rd October 2009
5 x Penguin Chillers (scarlet covers): Monday 26th - Friday 30th October 2009
